| calico skies – usa & canada guitar denise crawford vocal jin kupka ![]() jin & denise calico skies became one of my favorite songs before i had even finished hearing it for the first time. as soon as "the world tonight" was over, i grabbed my guitar, and wore out the tape hitting rewind over that song. thank you paul, for playing the entire song on video, with a clear view of the hands! which brings us to how this particular rendition came to be. jin was the brains and the voice behind this piece. one day she wrote that it would be fun to collaborate on a song or two. i can play the guitar, but am not much of a singer. jin has a fabulous voice, but alas, |
doesn't play. like i said, she was the brains who noticed the natural fit between the two of us. i had emailed to jin that i was having a great time learning to play calico skies, all the while complaining that i couldn't sing it, me being a basement alto and not a very good one at that. and i wasn't going to tune down my only guitar for just one song, and to transpose would make it impossible to play...so she prodded me to record my instrumental, and mail it to her, 3000 miles away, where she would add the vocal. we only intended to entertain ourselves with it, but luckily i kept a copy of the tape, and when the call came out for bogey music, how could we resist? it was already done! true to the original, you will hear just vocal and acoustic guitar, but as an added bonus, you get all of the ambient noise that our primitive equipment and living rooms provide. denise |

| hope of deliverance – usa lead vocal dennis adkins backing vocals joe kraeske & ben wilson guitars ben wilson ben |
“’hope of deliverance’ is my favorite song from ‘off the ground.’ i have always liked the music, and especially the percussion. the song seemed to represent something a little different for paul. this song offered a lot of possibilities for different arrangements and instruments. i must admit that i had lots of ideas for this song at first, but the reality turned out quite different track than i had imagined. performing on the track are joe kraeske, and ben wilson, a young guitarist we know from cafe' paradiso, a local coffee house. ben is also a big beatles/mccartney fan, so he was excited about the project. originally i had wanted some type of percussion on the song. we added a percussion track, but it seemed out of time. since the percussion track bothered me, i decided to use the track without the percussion. so what we ended up with was a stripped-down version. not exactly what i had planned, but we were running short on studio time. in the end, i think it turned out ok though.” dennis adkins |

| junk – usa vocals dennis adkins guitar tommy crow dennis the first mccartney solo album has always appealed to me. i like the simplicity of the production, and the natural, spontaneous sound of the recording. it's also interesting that some of the songs were actually written during paul's beatle days. that's why i selected "junk." the song has a good melody and it's just basically a nice little song. every time i listen to this song, i think of paul and linda strolling past an antique or junk shop, on a village street somewhere in england. i imagine that paul must have thought about each item in the window having a story behind it. as for my version of the song, i wanted to keep it unplugged and simple. i'm not such a great |
musician, in fact i'm not much of a musician at all, so i recruited a real musician named tommy crow. tommy plays acoustic guitar on the song, and i do the vocal. tommy was once in several legendary local rock bands in my area, so i was really excited that he agreed to help me out on the song. after he signed on to do the project, i then rented studio time at village digital recording, a small but nice studio in the city where i live. not having a big studio budget, we had to complete the song in one hour. we did three takes of "junk," and we attempted to do "every night," but the second song did not turn out so good. perhaps i'll use that one on my box set of unreleased tracks!!!! (just joking). we had a lot of fun recording the song. i had never recorded in a real studio, so it was an enjoyable experience. as a matter of fact, it's sort of addicting. i would love to try it again sometime. maybe there will be a paul tribute volume two!! dennis adkins |

i would just like to say thanks to paul, of course, for giving us some great music and here we hope to give a little something back. i felt fortunate to work with a talented guitarist from southern ky, ben wilson (maybe he is related to brian?) and say thanks to a new friend, robbie mcintosh, who i think performed my entry. we went through the spring cleaning of our minds on this project!! joe |

bip bop - usa bio schmio...from the mid-80's to the early 90's i was in a band i co-founded (andsometimes confounded) called last gentlemen. we released several independent lp's that had solid sales in the midwest and we were able to draw consistently large crowds at our shows, primarily in our hometown of champaign, illinois.we also began getting opening slots on tours by artists such as cultureclub, jefferson starship & omd, to name just a few. in the late 80's we signed a major label record deal with zoo entertainment and were label mates with matthew sweet (when he was having success with girlfriend), dogstar (keanu reeves' band) and tool. in the early 90's we released our major label debut, shot a video for mtv and hung out with famous people |
in la. it was a very exciting time.about a year later, after selling about 12 copies of said major label debut, we decided to call it quits and just be friends. i pretty much decided i had had it with the music business and vowed to never ever have anything to do with it again. it was a very confusing time. fast forward 10 years and two kids later and i've discovered that music is something that i'll never be able to turn my back on. i've started writing songs again and am trying to decide if i want to release a cd (under the name three chord circus www.threechordcircus.com and open this whole can of worms once more. hits - or why i chose the mccartney songs i did: bip bop when i was younger and not bound by the shackles of meaningfullyrics this was one of my favorite songs. i still enjoy it and was surprised to see it appear on wingspan. junior's farm at any given moment i would say that either jet or junior'sfarm is my favorite mccartney song (for those keeping score my favoritemccartney album as a whole is ram). i always thought that if i could askpaul one question and one question only i would ask him to teach me theintro guitar/keyboard harmony to junior's farm. i think i'd still like to ask him that. |

glad to be a part of this macca tribute! here are two songs that i threw together - didn't have the time to multitrack/instrument it all - just a raw acoustic/vocal performance, mistakes and all, but i hope everyone enjoys it anyway! note: i can't play my records anymore, so i did these from memory... i hope there are close enough to the way they really go! in my pic are a few of my prized possessions - one of which is a 1970 hofner beatle bass! maybe i'll use it next time around... |

| please don’t bring your banjo back– spain vocals & guitar eufemiano s. amillategui vocals & guitar luis ‘chacal’ guitar tony luz eufe here's a little drop of paul fun from the xmas flexis: 'please don't bring my banjo back'. just two musicians playing guitar along with me, and some crazy vocals. here's the line-up: |
tony luz played in the same bill with 'los pekenikes' when the fab four stopped at madrid in 1965! luis played with the latest tony luz's band: 'perro viejo.’ and then there is my delayed guitar, off key vocals & laughter...my guitar playing was singled out in the recent [spanish] criminal law modification. ;) the recording studio and the tiny engineering: 'mago estudios' are in madrid, spain. it's a double pleasure to participate in this wonderful project, and having the opportunity of playing with musicians, and emulating paul in 'goodnight princess.’ i hope you've get the same pleasure hearing this song that we got while playing it. eufe |

| winter rose / i’m carrying – usa vocal doris lin ![]() i re-recorded my song in a *real* recording studio! it was quite an experience. when i explained what i needed and why, the guy running the studio said, "paul mccartney sang into that exact microphone." he said that paul was in nyc in 1993, and for |
some reason, came down to this recording studio in central nj! i asked what he recorded, and he said that paul was just going through some old tapes. he also said that ringo once came in with tom petty, when the all star band was playing at the garden state arts center. he said that ringo and tp went through a bunch of old traveling wilburys tapes, looking for anything with roy orbison's voice on it, because it was right after ro passed away. anyway, i can say that i recorded my song on the same exact microphone once used by paul!!! :-) peace, |

| one of these days – usa vocals & instruments solin solin, at an early age, had already demonstrated his propensity for performing. at age three, he was pounding out rhythms on a makeshift drum set that was comprised of strategically placed cardboard album covers. he would abandon his "drum set", only long enough to rip an impromptu lead on the " beat-up tennis racket" that served as his guitar at the time. the first real guitar didn't arrive until the age of ten. |
by the age of fifteen, solin was already in the studio, recording original material. as a performer, solin's extensive and diversified musical career, affords him an unparalleled versatility. solin portrayed john lennon in the cast of beatlemania for eight years. he's opened for johnny winter. worked with roger mcguinn. toured the east coast with former musical partner jon brion. was joined by aimee mann, in singing "you keep me hanging on" ( a solin original), to a packed house at toad's place, new haven, ct. he has been named "band of the week", by the new haven advocate, (how many solo artists can lay claim to "band of the week" honors?). solin has also rocked virtually every major club on the east coast. solin's debut cd, " put another date on life", has been generating rave reviews. |

| rainclouds – uk vocal & guitar sarah sair sheraton from the broad street sweatshirt and the number of beatles book binders, i'd guess this photo was taken around 1985. my contribution to bogey music was recorded on this acoustic guitar. yes, that's how old it is! :-) |
the guitar sound that you hear on bogey music is from a very old thing which has old strings and a warped neck, hence the abysmal tuning - for example when i play the e major in tune, a g major becomes out of tune and vice versa and no amount of tampering with the tuning of the thing improves matters i am sorry to say. first the guitar was recorded, then a vocal and finally a thump of the guitar on a third recording attempt. a shadow of my former self musically-speaking unfortunately but i must admit i had fun picking up the old acoustic again. :-) |

| chase my blues away - usa the other me she’s my baby/warm & beautiful stranglehold when the night performed & arranged tom satriano engineered by danny phillips, steve cooper & tom satriano ![]() tom |
since the playful she's my baby (one of my home recordings) is on the same lp and in the same key i decided to be hip and enjoin them. stranglehold was the second song i started at home. i like the beefy horns in the original, but thought a guitars only approach made it clean but still plenty rocky. i was going to make it an unplugged version originally but couldn't resist adding some wix-like effects once i had access to some studio toys. i dug up when the night for posterity. i recorded this at home in the fall of 1974, right before college days. i guess this shows my chops are rooted in macca from youth. what a deeply satisfying project bogey music has been! thank you darling, lynn harvey, from the bottom of my heart, for helping this project to bear fruit. thanks to steve cooper, my idol and dear friend from scm. scm@scmpro.com. thanks to bungalow gil mclean for coming up with the idea to resurrect this project. thanks to all on macca-l, my buddies and my fab friends who've listened to beatle and maccamusic with me (or without me) for 35+ years! grazie to my lovely brats who had to put up with an absentee father while he was recording. but above all, thanks to you, paul mccartney- for all you've done and all you do. your music, your art, your essence continues to inspire and amaze. it's been an incredible ride for this 45 year-old kid from colorado. thanks for the lift, macca. put it there! thomas paul satriano |

turpentine – return to pepperland from the moment we popped the CD in and began figuring out our parts to play, to the instant the song was mixed to cassette and labeled and declared ready to send, took almost exactly three hours. considering that of the three of us only I had ever heard the song before, and even I had never so much as sung along, we’re pretty happy with the result. we hope you will be too! nikki & turpentine "You're someone other than who you're not." -nikki |

| heart of the country – norway little willow vocals & guitar laila solum hansen ![]() "heart of the country" : me and an ibanez guitar - sung in front of my pc, using my son's dance- ejay program, one single mike, making a wave-file and burning it on cd. why this song? - childhood memories from the countryside - and a fun and lovely little song, not too hard to play. a little trouble with that scat singing, though...(a norwegian group called 'ballade' made a norwegian version of this some years ago - parodying a 'hippie-style-back-to-the-country'-dream. they also made a version of 'hey jude'.) 'little willow': me and my yahama spanish guitar, same 'recording technique' as the other song. |
why this song? - it is just a beautiful song - even if it is simple - and possible to play and sing.. i have to change chords / level compared to paul's original, because of my alto voice, and use capo on the guitar - another one of those differences between paul's and my voice... biog: born 1955 - beatles/ paul-fan from the early age of 8, shortly after that started to play guitar, learned 'yesterday'. also play piano and clarinet; met egil, who had lots of beatles records. married him, got 3 children, children brainwashed with beatles music, especially youngest son. living in fredrikstad, norway, working as physiotherapist in a psychiatric ward. as part of work sing and play guitar with the patients twice a week, sneaking in beatles- and paul-songs - mobbed by coworkers. seen paul once in concert, oslo, norway -93 - fantastic! member of macca-l since june 2000, using a little too much time in front of the pc. sending my parts of this project with some nervousness and as complete amateur. hope to pass the audition! :) |

a beatles fan since i was 12. paul fan since i was 9 (yes i discovered beatles through paul, it's a long story). i play guitar in a band, we used to do lots of paul / beatles songs. we've opened several gigs with "figure of eight/jet" or "venus & mars/rockshow", just like on paul's live albums. now we don't play covers anymore, we just play our own songs, but we have good memories. i managed to teach myself drums, bass, guitar and piano, just like my idol. my dream is to work with paul as a session musician. |

| bluebird - usa vocal & instruments rudi riet |
I recorded this song in the back seat of my car (literally) using Digidesign ProTools 4.1 on an Apple PowerBook G3. All vocals are mine, the guitar playing is mine, and the percussion is all of my creation. I parked my car in picturesque areas for the recording sessions for some necessary inspiration (though I didn't see any bluebirds - only blue jays and Canada geese with their fluffy offspring). No animals were harmed in the recording of this song. |

the world tonight junk – first performed it fully for my final in intermediate guitar at american river…and just kept as like a main stream mcccartney piece that i could pick up a guitar and just do it and everyone would hum along…and got oh yeah that was from that tom cruise movie…**laughing* *the world tonight – first got hooked to the song after seeing father’s day with robin williams and billy crystal…it was so much of a song I could relate to |
almost on a spiritual level…on bogey music i did more of a simple interpretation of it…i know the big sigh...we don't get to hear her sing it, believe me. probably my instructor will be in line in front of ya'll...aweee be nice you might later on...big thanks to tom phillips (my instructor) for showing me how to tidy up my playing on this.. bio: just starting out about three years ago on guitar, at the age of 19...right now very instrested in the simple instrumental sound, but also currently working as the lead/rhythmn guitarist in a small classic rock influenced group... nikki jones |
