Alexander Telfair House
Telfair Square
Savannah, Georgia
Jay built this house for Alexander Telfair in 1819. Telfair died unexpectedly in 1832, and the house passed on to his sister Mary. Under the terms of Mary's will, the house was converted and expanded to an art museum by architect Detlaf Lienau in the 1890s. Today it is the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences, which holds, in addition to its art, furniture, and object collections, the house Jay built for Richard Richardson.
